Kagura has an extremely distinct personality when compared to Naraku. She's often frustrated and rash, doing things without thinking and endangering herself accidentally. However she's also extremely intelligent and can see through Inuyasha's strategies with the utmost of ease. (She seems to be able to read his thoughts in a way.) However, she's extremely afraid for her life and would do anything to be free of her cruel master. A scheming youkai, Kagura has thought of many different plots to get rid of Naraku and free herself; usually with the help of either Sesshomaru or Inuyasha.

Kagura is very selfish; the main reason she wants to be free of Naraku is do what she wants. Not to perform someone else's bidding like one of her corpse dolls, not to be a part of something bigger than she can imagine. To Naraku, she's simply a puppet. Perhaps it is because Naraku thinks so lowly of her that she wants to break free - she would not only prove her worth as a separate youkai but reaffirm herself as an individual. What all of Naraku's spawn lack is the ability to choose for themselves and it is this power that Kagura so desperately craves.
