A kimono-clad woman is seen wielding a giant fan. Her face is hidden behind the bamboo blinds of Naraku's castle, but her voice can be heard, soft yet confident. Kagura enters the Inuyasha realm in episode 39 of the anime and volume 15 of the manga. Her first mission: Destroy Kouga's tribesmen and retrieve his shikon shards.
Kagura cons Kouga's wolves into thinking that there are shards at Naraku's castle. When they do not return, Kouga begins to search for them and, sadly, walks straight into a trap; Kagura tricks Kouga into thinking Inuyasha massacred his wolves, hoping Kouga would kill the pesky hanyou. She hands Kouga a poisonous jewel shard, telling him it would give him the power to avenge his fallen comrades. He places it in his arm, completely ignorant of the fact that it was poisoned and would eventually prove to be fatal.
Thus begins a climatic clash between wolf and canine. Kouga's newly-powered arm makes the fight almost entrirely one-sided. With a gargantuan punch, Kouga creates a large pit in the ground with Inuyasha, bruised and broken, lying within in. Kagura, thinking Inuyasha dead and buried, uses her Shikabane no Mai to send an army of wolve corpses to finish off the panting Kouga. The truth is revealed that she was in fact the one who murdered his tribesmen and that Naraku's miasma would slowly dissipate from the jewel shard into his arm with enough poison to kill him.
Inuyasha, however, proves he is not as weak as Kagura had previously thought. She swiftly attacks him with the Fuujin no Mai. Inuyasha's nose soon gives it all away; Kagura is Naraku's newest detachment. She then entraps Inuyasha within the Ryuuja no Mai.
With Kagome's help, Inuyasha's Kaze no Kizu manages to shatter the Ryuuja no Mai, and Kagura, kimono torn and defeated, flies away.
